Developers are poets

Programmers are people who can speak a particular language. Developers are like poets in that language. Programmers will spend most of their time debugging code because one part doesn't rhyme with another. Developers won't stop after translating your specs into code that merely compiles. Good developers don't just want to be understood by compilers! They seek, in a word, beauty.

This is indeed the most common mistake in computing: assuming that knowing how to program is enough to create software.
